History is good for the soul.
One of the benefits of homeschooling is all the learning that I get to do as well. In our World History lessons this week the story of Blandina – Martyred in A.D. 177 in Lyon, France – caught my attention and I researched it more on my own. A slave girl of 15 who was tortured so much for her Christian faith that the torturers grew exhausted. After several days she finally died. She was publicly martyred in the arena of Lyon, France along with Sanctus, Maturus, Attalus, and the elderly Ponthinus – to name a few. What they endured is beyond my comprehension, but their joy and words of declaration of the Most High were truly moving. The hatred towards Christians is disturbing but their faith astounding.
If you are interested in reading an eye-witness account of their testimony it can be found in the writings of Eusebius of Caesarea.
